Act of 1979 anyone can set up as an
estate agent
unless they are bankrupt or banned by the Office of Fair Trading. This
leaves the potential for dealing with estate

who have little or no
knowledge of the housing market or the laws
governing it - it may be best

are members of the Ombudsman for Estate

(OEA) scheme which can award compensation to home buyers or home
sellers, if it finds
they have been badly treated.
